Serving Nkawkaw with Compassion and Excellence Since 1949
Holy Family Catholic Hospital, Nkawkaw, has been a beacon of compassionate healthcare for over 75 years. What started as a humble outpatient clinic established by the Missionary Sisters (SSpS) in 1949 has grown into a 250-bed facility serving over 100,000 outpatients annually.
Located in Nkawkaw, the capital of The Kwahu West Municipality, our hospital is dedicated to providing quality healthcare services to a rapidly expanding community of approximately 145,000 residents. We combine modern medicine with Christian values to improve lives and serve our community with integrity and excellence.
The Beginning: Holy Family Hospital starts as an Out-Patient Clinic established by the Missionary Sisters, Servants of the Holy Spirit (SSpS).
Expansion: A Maternity Ward is added to serve the maternal health needs of the community.
Professional Growth: The first doctor is employed, enhancing the quality of medical care.
Accreditation: The facility is registered as a Mission Hospital after adding more wards and an operating theatre.
Modern Facilities: The current Out-Patient Department is built to better serve patients.
Nursing Education: Holy Family Nurses' Training College (HFNTC) is established to train Enrolled Nurses to support hospital operations.
Emergency Care: The Emergency Ward is opened for overnight detention, observation, and management of emergency cases.
Advanced Training: The first cohort of State Registered Nurses (SRNs) graduates, replacing the EN program.
Continued Excellence: Operating as a Level C Municipal Hospital, serving as a training ground for healthcare professionals while providing quality patient care.
Holy Family Hospital is a Level C Municipal Hospital that serves the Kwahu West Municipality and surrounding areas. We refer patients to the Eastern Regional Hospital, St. Joseph's Orthopaedic Hospital in Koforidua, and major teaching hospitals including Komfo Anokye in Kumasi and Korle-Bu in Accra.
We host nursing students from our Nurses' Training College (NTC) for clinical training, preparing the next generation of healthcare professionals. Our commitment to education strengthens both our hospital and the broader healthcare system.
We employ a dedicated team of healthcare professionals. Approximately 84% of staff are covered through Ghana government subvention in the form of salaries, ensuring stability and commitment to our mission.
We benefit from in-service training of health professionals and medical equipment allocations from the government, enabling us to maintain high standards of care and continuous professional development.
